![]() Hence, with the aid of content analysis techniques, and in the light of the decision-making and social exclusion theories, this study examines the electoral consequences posed by Nigeria's enforcement of the International Court of Justice's Verdict over Bakassi Peninsula with a view to proffering solutions. The case of the displaced Bakassi people is unique because they are more or less permanently and not temporarily displaced. So far, it does not seem that the Nigerian government has made any serious efforts to address the electoral consequences of displacement in the country especially with respect to the displaced Bakassi people. In essence, the displaced Bakassi people like other internally displaced persons have been disenfranchised in the 2007, 2011, and the 2015 general elections in Nigeria. Ever since the Nigerian government ceded Bakassi Peninsula to Cameroon, the rights of the displaced Bakassi people to participate in elections were jeopardized. ![]() One of such consequences which have actually impaired the political rights of the displaced Bakassi people borders on their electoral participation. The verdict of the International Court of Justice on the Nigeria-Cameroon dispute over Bakassi Peninsula came with series of consequences for the Bakassi people which constitute serious threats to Nigeria's democracy. ![]()
